Joep Beving Portrayed in Trouw at the Embassy of the Free Mind

12 Nov 2025

Dutch pianist and composer Joep Beving was featured in a portrait by Sander Troelstra in Trouw, photographed at the Embassy of the Free Mind.

Trouw published a portrait of Joep Beving, one of the Netherlands' best-known contemporary classical composers, photographed by Sander Troelstra at the Embassy of the Free Mind. Beving's work has long drawn on hermetic philosophy as a source of inspiration, most explicitly in his 2022 Deutsche Grammophon album Hermetism, making the Embassy a fitting setting for the piece.

Beving has described the Embassy as a place of genuine personal significance, and the institution featured in the documentary Composing My Mind, which followed three artists, including Beving, who find creative inspiration in the collection.

The article appeared in the print edition of Trouw.
