1. Tickets & Admission
- You must hold a valid entrance ticket (day pass, annual pass, or other authorized access) to enter the museum or event.
- Please present your ticket when asked by our staff.
2. Bag & Coat Storage
- All bags, large jackets, backpacks, and similar personal items must be stored in the cloakroom or lockers provided before entering the public areas. This rule helps protect our rare books, exhibits, and visitor experience.
- Only small personal items that can be carried comfortably may be brought into exhibition and reading areas.
3. Food & Drink
- Eating and drinking is only allowed in the café and designated garden areas.
- No food or drinks may be taken into exhibition spaces or the reading room.
4. Smoking & Pets
- Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the building and in the garden.
- Pets are not permitted. Assistance animals are welcome– please inform a staff member on arrival.
5. Children
- Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring appropriate behaviour and the safety of the collection.
6. Lost & Found
- We are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal belongings.
- If you have lost an item during your visit, please contact our front desk or email us with a description of the item and the date of your visit. Found items are kept for a limited time.
7. Respectful Behaviour
- Please act respectfully toward staff, fellow visitors, and the building at all times.
- Only access the public areas on the ground and first floor, unless arrangements have been made otherwise.
8. Library & Book Consultation
- Books from the collection may only be consulted in the reading room on the first floor.
- You may use your own laptop; Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.
- Please follow any additional reading room rules displayed in the room during your visit; staff may also provide guidance to ensure proper care of the collection
- Writing in, marking, or damaging any books is strictly forbidden.
- Books may not be removed from the building. Staff may ask to inspect bags at exit.
9. Special Collections Access
- To consult pre-1800 books or manuscripts, please apply via email to library@efm.amsterdam at least two days in advance.
- You may be required to sign an agreement and adhere to special consultation regulations.
- You must be conducting research. For general inquiries, please see our available tours.
10. Phone & Photography
- Mobile phone use is allowed. Please keep devices on silent and be mindful of others.
- Photography for personal use is permitted in most public areas. Ppease respect the privacy and experience of other visitors.
- Professional or commercial photography and video require prior written permission.
11. Safety & Security
- CCTV cameras operate throughout public areas for the safety of visitors and our collection.
- Please follow all posted safety instructions and staff directions.
12. General Terms & Conditions For Visitors
- All visitors are subject to our General Terms & Conditions and Visitor Policies.
- By purchasing a ticket or visiting the EFM, you agree to these conditions.
- If the House Rules are not followed, staff may ask you to adjust your behavior or to leave the premises.
- In serious or repeated cases, we may involve security or local authorities.
