Forum for Process met Dr. Margot Bouwer

Kun je als sterrenkundige nog in God geloven, en zo ja, hoe? Dr. Margot Brouwer groeide op in een gelovig gezin, maar werd aan de universiteit geconfronteerd met een heel ander wereldbeeld: een leeg, onbarmhartig universum waarin voor God geen plaats lijkt. In diens debuut ‘Sterrenstof zijn wij’ neemt Margot de lezer mee in diens levenslange worsteling met existentiële vragen. Wat doe ik hier op aarde? Wie of wat ben ik? Heeft mijn leven zin? En wat gebeurt er met me als ik uiteindelijk sterf? Gelukkig is Margot niet de eerste die hier diep over heeft nagedacht. De filosoof Benedictus de Spinoza, geestelijk vader van de Verlichting, werkte vier eeuwen geleden al uit hoe wij verbinding, zin, en zelfs geluk kunnen vinden in onze eenheid met een oneindig Heelal dat hij ‘God’ durfde te noemen. Vooral in onze tijd kan deze driehoeksverhouding tussen wetenschap, filosofie en zingeving onze blik verwijden van de waanzin van alledag naar de peilloze diepten van ruimte en tijd, en uiteindelijk naar wie wij werkelijk zijn.

About the Guest Lecturer

Margot Brouwer (die/diens) stoeit al van kinds af aan met vragen over het leven, het universum en alles. Die studeerde natuur- en sterrenkunde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam, promoveerde aan de Universiteit Leiden op het onderwerp van donkere materie en alternatieve zwaartekracht, en werkte als sterrenkundig onderzoeker aan de Universiteiten van Amsterdam en Groningen. Nu schrijft Margot over het snijvlak van wetenschap, filosofie en zingeving, maakt podcasts en geeft regelmatig lezingen. Voor meer info, zie: www.margotbrouwer.nl.

About the Host

Barbara Helen Miller, Ph.D., is a psychoanalyst (C. G. Jung) in private practice, a member of the International Association for Analytical Psychology, Training Analyst for IAAP in Tbilisi Georgia, anthropologist in co-operation with Research Group Circumpolar Cultures, her research a case study on Sámi healers in Porsanger, Norway. Many of her publications attempt to bring analytical psychology and shamanism into fruitful dialogue.

School of Active Imagination

C.G. Jung approaches the process of mediating, transitioning, and transforming inner experience through a dialectic, found, a.o., in active imagination. Such dialectic may include other narratives (myths and fairytales) from the analyst’s repertoire, these narratives for the most part being held in mind during and after the session and comprising the analyst’s associative thinking.

Theme for school year (2026-2027), Joint Attention: work with the affective core of the Self and formation of creation myths. Joint attention is the shared focus of two individuals on an object, event, or scene, often involving eye contact, gesturing (like pointing), and emotional sharing. The social-cognitive model of joint attention proposes that, as infants monitor and represent their own goal-related intentional activity, they also monitor and represent the goal-related behavior of others.
