Six carved heads gaze out from the facade of Keizersgracht 123. Everyone who passes wants to know their story. What most people never learn is that the history inside the house is even more remarkable than what adorns its front.
Built in 1622, the House with the Heads has passed through the hands of occupants who left their mark on both the building and the ideals it sheltered. The De Geer family, its second owners, transformed it into a sanctuary of intellectual freedom in the 17th century. Traces of their time remain alongside layers left by every generation that followed. Jozef Ritman, who oversaw the painstaking restoration of this national monument, continues to research the house and its inhabitants, and he still makes new discoveries. On this tour, those discoveries come alive as your guide reveals what the walls, the rooms, and the six heads have witnessed across four centuries.
